About David Tvildiani Medical University

David Tvildiani Medical University is a private medical university in Tbilisi, Georgia, and one of the country's first non governmental medical institutions. It was founded in 1989 by Academician David Tvildiani and Dr. Dimitri Tvildiani, beginning life as the AIETI Medical School. In 2011, following years of accreditation and the development of doctoral programmes, the institution was upgraded to full university status and renamed David Tvildiani Medical University in honour of its founder.
A founding mission of international medicine
From the start, DTMU set out to prepare physicians for international practice. The teaching is in English, the textbooks and methods follow American and European medical education, and the curriculum is aligned with the United States Medical Licensing Examination. This is the reason the university describes itself as one of the shortest routes to a US medical licence.
Two campuses

DTMU operates in Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, and in Rustavi, about 30 kilometres away. The Rustavi campus includes dormitory accommodation with rooms of two, three, and four beds, a canteen serving Indian and European food, an electronic library, laboratories, and student facilities. Why DTMU's private status matters in 2026
As of 2026, Georgia restricted new foreign student admissions at its state and public universities. DTMU is a private university, so it continues to welcome international students, including Indian applicants, for the 2026 intakes. For families comparing options, this is an important point of stability.
Recognition and memberships

DTMU is recognised by the National Medical Commission of India and the World Health Organization, listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and is a member of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe, the Association for Medical Education in Europe, ORPHEUS, and FAIMER.
