NMC Approved Medical Universities in Georgia 2026

Last updated: June 2026

A lot of websites publish a fixed list of NMC approved universities in Georgia. That is misleading. The NMC no longer keeps a static approved list. Here is how recognition actually works in 2026, and how to verify any university yourself so your degree is valid in India.

The FMGLR 2021 rules that decide validity

Under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licensure Regulations 2021, your Georgian degree is valid for Indian licensing only if the programme meets all of these:

  • The medical course runs at least 54 months.
  • A 12 month internship is completed at the same institution.
  • The entire course is taught fully in English.
  • The whole course, including clinical training, is completed in the same country.

A qualified NEET score is also mandatory for Indian students.

How to verify a university yourself

  1. Search the university in the World Directory of Medical Schools at wdoms.org.
  2. Open the Sponsor Notes tab and look for the India note that confirms NMC recognition.
  3. Check for ECFMG and FAIMER references for global mobility.
  4. Confirm the admission letter states the full course is 100 percent in English.
  5. Verify current status on the official NMC site at nmc.org.in before you enrol.

Universities Indian students consider in Georgia

Commonly considered universities include Tbilisi State Medical University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, David Tvildiani Medical University, New Vision University, Georgian National University SEU, East European University, Georgian American University, and Caucasus International University. Important for 2026: the state and public universities in this group, such as Tbilisi State Medical University and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, are closed to new foreign admissions, so new Indian applicants should focus on private universities.
